Kyokushin kaikan (極真会館) is a style of stand-up, full contact karate, founded in 1964 by Sosai Masutatsu Oyama (大山倍達) Kyokushinkai is Japanese for "the society of the ultimate truth." Kyokushin is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard training. Its full contact style has had international appeal (practitioners have over the last 40+ years numbered more than 12 million).

Judo (meaning "gentle way") is a modern martial art, combat and Olympic sport created in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano (嘉納治五郎). Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent.

Randori/Free Fighting/Tai-kai

Great Class last night, it was the 2nd night of randori with the students and everyone has improved just from last week.  The Spirit continues to grow!  

I would like to welcome Joe, 1st kyu from 1976 to our ranks, a Retired, Light Infantry Sargent Major (I am a former light fighter my self).  I am proud to add him to our ranks and look foreword to his future with the dojo.

I would  also like to send my best wishes to Sensei Larry Swanser (My Karate Sensei) with his recoveries and surgeries, we look foreword to having you in the dojo.

Also a speedy return to Kaicho (Kyokusai Remencho) Carl McClafferty of the Shin Shin Kai, my Iai Sensei.

Yamada Soke of the Shin Shin Kai, we look foreword to your visit and training with you.  All of the Shin Shin Kai who will be at the Tai-kai in Detroit, I look forward to our training, and the after training!!
