Kyokushin kaikan (極真会館) is a style of stand-up, full contact karate, founded in 1964 by Sosai Masutatsu Oyama (大山倍達) Kyokushinkai is Japanese for "the society of the ultimate truth." Kyokushin is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard training. Its full contact style has had international appeal (practitioners have over the last 40+ years numbered more than 12 million).

Judo (meaning "gentle way") is a modern martial art, combat and Olympic sport created in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano (嘉納治五郎). Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent.

Yoga

Shay Pedersen has been practicing yoga since 2000 and Pilates since 2007. With achildhood full of dance and gymnastics,she craved a way to move andrelease energyinto the worldoutside of just doing cardio and lifting weights at the gym. Itwas an easyfit and she was hooked right away.Shay discovered that her yoga and Pilates practicenot only filled her physical needs, butas an extra benefit,it grounded her and calmedher as well.She did her teacher trainingfor mat Pilates in early2010 and beganteaching soon after.Later that year shetrained to teach yoga at the urging of her studiodirector at the time because he wanted an athletic, energetic vinyasa instructorand hethought she was a perfect fit.She has now evolved her practice and teaching style toinclude many different types of classes andstyles of yoga.She currently teachesmatPilates, dynamic Vinyasa Hatha-based classes,fluid, gentle and mellow flowandcandlelight Yin.She also teaches a yoga-based fitness class to middle schoolers in theVail School District.Aside from these,Shayhas taughtYoga for Athletes, Power Yoga,seniors classesprenatal yoga and kids classes in a private studio as well asP.E. yoga and assembliesfor the Vail School District and the YMCA kids summer program. She is also currentlytraining to teach Reformer Pilates.When she is not on the mat, Shay enjoys spending time with herfourchildren, familyand friends. She enjoys doing home improvementprojects, gardening, readingandresearching,listening to music and dancing,festivals and eventsand dining outat newplaces.
